Son of God, Love's Pure Light

This Christmas Concert mural for Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, reflects the iconographic style. Icons are "holy images" rendered through the centuries and used by believers to enhance their worship. Whether small and intimate or monumental in scale, icons are not, themselves, the objects of worship.

Like icons through the ages, this mural portrays both traditional and innovative representations of Christianity. The central Virgin with Child is surrounded by narrative scenes featuring God, the Creator; the Old Testament prophets; the Holy Spirit with a crown; the Annunciation; the Adoration of the Magi; the angel appearing to the shepherds;  the heralding angels; the Crucifixion; the Resurrection; and Christ Enthroned.

These are the images of our faith, age-old symbols of promise -- an eternal gift made and delivered to each of us by the Son of God, Love's Pure Light.
