The Sower

The Sower is a contemporary depiction of the traditional parable found in Matthew 13. Originally commissioned as a memorial, the panel hangs permanently in the narthax of Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby, North Dakota.

This traditional parable of Christ is depicted using more contemporary imagery. The white clapboard siding of a farm house carries the thematic text, sunflowers bloom brilliantly in the background while hungry birds circle overhead. A threatening sky promises rain to nourish the seeds being sown by the farmer who scatters some among rocks and thorns, some in good soil. The Sower has received high praise and is often requested as an illustration for agricultural entities or church capital campaigns.
