DAVID J. HETLAND * LITURGICAL & PUBLIC ART
Photomural

This massive photomural graces the remodeled entrance to Memorial Auditorium on the campus of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. The building alternately serves as a physical education facility and performance center.

Designed to represent a cross section of the campus community, its history and tradition, the mural combines over 30 separate images into a single piece of art. Using original photographs from the college archives, photo lab and office of communications, Hetland Ltd. was able to highlight Concordia's academic, athletic, cultural and spiritual orientation. Hetland wanted to illustrate some aspects of student life, especially some of the fun things that take place at the college. For example, we have included a photo of President Paul J. Dovre wearing vintage aviator goggles and a trenchcoat, riding the bicycle of his youth while being chased on foot by alumni director Ernie Mancini who is bedecked as a hatchet-waving Viking. This is truly a piece of art that can be enjoyed and appreciated by everyone.

Installed in March of 1997, the wall mural measures 40 feet wide by 10 feet high, and is a collaboration with Vomela Graphics of St. Paul, Minn., using the 3M Scotchprint TM system.
