Chancel Cross

  Chancel Cross  Sverdrup Lutheran Church

This Sverdrup chancel cross measures approximately eight feet by 10 feet and has a framework fashioned of welded tube steel with inserts of opalescent glass and gold mosaic. It is mounted directly to the wall with one-inch spacers for added dimension.
Shaped to repeat the gothic arches of the sanctuary windows, this cross was designed to reflect the rural, agricultural influence of the Underwood area with flowing water and fish, birds lazily floating in the sky, verdant furrows ripening to golden fields and waving shafts of grain. At center is the Holy Spirit depicted as a dove, aflame to signify both warmth and light -- its halo resembling the sun and serving as a sign of God's eternal presence among us.
